The Toronto group of Kleercut Volunteers is making waves with InterContinental Hotel Group and now this major hotel outlet wants to work with us!
For the last two weeks our group has been all over the Toronto International Film Festival letting patrons and movie stars know that InterContinental Hotel is purchasing and stocking Kimberly-Clark tissue products in their hotel rooms. Kimberly-Clark destroys ancient forests like the Boreal to manufacture toilet paper, paper towels and facial tissue. We asked hotel guests and the public to sign our petition urging InterContinental to switch their tissue, toilet paper and paper towel to a forest friendly alternative.
On Thursday (September 14), members of our group were outside the InterContinental wearing our new t-shirts that read "Say No to Kimberly-Clark Tissue Products/It takes 90 Years to Grow a Box of Kleenex" asking people to sign the petition. The response was extraordinary. Even Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn from Lord of the Rings) had his photo taken with us and said he supported the campaign.
We caught the attention of the manager and controller of the hotel and they agreed to sit down and meet with the volunteer group formally before the end of September. We shook on it and headed out. ![]()
Glenn followed up with the hotel manager later in the week and we scheduled our first face to face meeting to discuss alternative suppliers and helping move the Intercontintal Hotel away from Kimberly-Clark products.
Now the hotel is actively engaged in seeking out new suppliers for their tissue products and we continue to work with them to see this through to completion.
Volunteer efforts like these can make a difference for ancient forests. You too can
We'll keep you updated.
