Kleercut activists at it again: Grocery stores adopted in Toronto and Burlington, Ontario

THe Kleercut Team

Kleercut activists were at it again as two grocery stores selling ancient forest destruction were adopted in Ontario last week: Sobeys in Toronto and Loblaws in Burlington. Shannon, Emily, Allyson, Jeff and I adopted the Sobeys location on St. Clair and Yonge in Toronto. The Sobeys adoptive parents arrived at 10:30 am prepared with leaflets, a mock Kleenex/Kleercut box and the enthusiasm to save Canada's Boreal Forest.

Emily and Allyson set up inside the mall entrance of Sobeys and Shannon, Jeff and I set up at the outside entrance. It took no time at all for the store manager to ask what we were up to. We presented her with a Kleenex store adoption certificate, explained why we were there and, to no one’s surprise, she wanted us out. Supposedly we were on private property and we had to move to the sidewalk, so we picked up our Kleenex box and forest crime scene tape moved to the sidewalk and continued to leaflet.

The Kleercut Box

This was not good enough for us; we needed to reach out further. Emily and Allyson went into the underground parking lot and left leaflets on the vehicles of the Sobeys shoppers. Dodging a close call of being caught by the angry store manager, they hid and escaped the parking lot leaving only behind only informative Kleercut leaflets on most of the cars in the lot.
As all this was happening Jeff and I handed out more leaflets on the sidewalk and Shannon was spread the word to everyone that passed by our Kleercut box.

We were very motivated to educate as many Sobeys shoppers as possible. After handing out a few hundred leaflets I am sure we changed some minds of consumers and convinced them to stop purchasing Kleenex tissue products. The store manager must have felt the pressure: she would send our Kleercut leaflet and certificate to the Sobeys head office.

Hopefully the friendly people at Sobeys head office will decide to send a strong message to Kimberly-Clark that they do not want to support the destruction of ancient forests forest destruction; maybe they will even send their Kleenex brand tissue products back to Kimberly-Clark.

So the question now is: WHO'S NEXT?

Earl.

Earl is a Kleercut activist kicking Kimberly-Clark ass in Ontario. Earl is organizing with other activists in local Kleercut Groups.
