We’re done.
The last stop of the Kleenex Forest Destruction tour of Southern Ontario is over and it has been a resounding success. Today in Mississauga at the Mavis Street Loblaws we had an interesting experience. The setup of the Kleercut box and the banner and the deployment of the activists with leaflets occurred without a hitch. After a week of doing this in various cities, we’re a pretty experience and well-oiled bunch.
The interesting part of the day was when the store manager and his assistant came out to ask us to leave. They were quite agitated to see us there. They demanded that we vacate their premises and actually became quite rude to their own customers who had no problems with us being there. One shopper actually vowed to no longer shop at this Loblaws because of the rude way that the manager interacted with us. Seems that Loblaws is going to be implementing a “Greenpeace is not welcome at our store” policy in the near future! I know that education is pretty revolutionary but…..
I say that when you are selling ancient forest destruction as Loblaws is doing by stocking Kleenex brand tissue products, you should feel lucky that you only have a handful of activists handing out leaflets on your property.

After this successful week on the road, I have some wrap up messages.
My message to store managers across Canada and the United States: Stop stocking Kimberly-Clark Kleenex brand tissue products. Start stocking more ancient forest friendly brands. Help protect ancient Boreal forests and be proud to be an environmentally responsible grocery store.
My messages to consumer and shoppers: You can make a difference. It’s easy as not choosing Kleenex brand tissue products at your local grocery store.
My message to fellow activists and forest defenders: Margaret Mead said it best when she said: “Never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can change the world: indeed it’s the only thing that ever has." In each city and town that we have visited this week, our handful of forest defenders have changed thousands of peoples’ opinion of Kleenex tissue products. We’ve done it through face to face discussions with shoppers going into stores and through radio, television and newspapers. And we will continue to educate and motivate our fellow citizens until Kimberly-Clark stops destroying ancient forests. After this week’s tour, I’m more sure of this than I ever was before.
You can join us in the fight to save these forests. Please start now.
