750,000
That’s approximately how many people we reached today with our message that Kleenex tissue products equal forest destruction on the third stop of the Kleenex Forest Destruction Tour. Sound like an exaggeration? It isn’t.
Mind you we didn’t talk to each of these people one on one or hand out a Kleercut leaflet to all of them but we certainly were in front of or in the ears of that many people today. Let me explain how.
Similar to yesterday’s stop in Waterloo, the Greenpeace Forest Crimes Unit set up shop at the Main Street Fortino’s in Hamilton. The giant Kleercut box was asembled, placed in front of the store and our banner was strung between a couple of poles ready to flap in the wind. The forest activists deployed themselves with handfuls of leaflets. And that’s when it happened.
What happened?
The media showed up.
I proceeded to do interviews with a regional televison station, a couple of newspapers and several radio stations with more booked for tomorrow afternoon. Their range of coverage? Approximately 750,000 people daily.
750,000 more people aware of the links between Kleenex tissue products and ancient forest desruction. 750,000 more people understanding that their decisions at the grocery store make a difference to Boreal forests. 750,000 more people willing to consider not buying Kleenex brand tissue products and thereby sending a strong message to Kimberly-Clark.
That’s what I call a successful media day. Add to this the personal outreach we did with dozens of customers of the Hamilton Fortino’s and I call that a good day for Boreal forests. It’s going to take many more good days like today to stop Kimberly-Clark from buying clearcut boreal forest pulp and permanently protect ancient forests. We can use the help.
